Scott was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was fourteen which resulted in the loss of his right leg above the knee. When Scott would hop around the house without his prosthesis, his mom gave him the nickname “Thumper.” Since his cancer diagnosis and loss of his right leg, Scott has went on to become the first above knee amputee to play in a professional basketball game and also cofounded a nonprofit, ABI, which hosts benefit charity basketball games to help kids with cancer and their families. All the money raised at these events go directly to kids fighting cancer and their families. He wrote a children’s book titled ‘Me and JC’ which shares his personal story with a powerful message. The book was published in early 2019. For the past twenty years, Scott continues to serve as a camp counselor at Camp Sanguinity which is a camp for kids with cancer and blood disorders. Scott has been featured in numerous newspapers, websites, and magazines such as Los Angeles Times, ESPN (online), SLAM Magazine, and many other media outlets. He has been awarded Community Hero, Fox 4 Hometown Hero, CBS 11 Texan with Character, AFLAC Duckprint Award, Camp Sanguinity Counselor of the Year, and others. In September 2018, it was Scott’s twentieth year of remission with his cancer. Scott has spoken to thousands of kids and people all over the country to share his story and testimony. He has a heart to serve others with everything he does and continues to show people not what he has done but what God has done in his life. His mission is to give people hope through his story in hopes it will plant a seed or strengthen their relationship with Christ.
