Scott Odom is a man of faith and force of nature. His personal story is a testament to both of those qualities and inspiration to many, myself included. Scott’s passion and purpose shine through his words and works. Be warned: His message is contagious.

As a sports reporter, I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and interview many people. When I interviewed Scott nearly a decade ago, I knew immediately he’d leave a lasting impression. I was so inspired by his optimism, maturity, but most of all...his drive to make a positive impact in the lives of other people. He is a perfect example of what it means to turn lemons into lemonade...but what makes him special...he wants to be sure your lemons become lemonade too. He’s a special person with a pure heart and true intentions. I’m not the least bit surprised, all these years later, that he has persevered on his quest to enrich the lives of others.

A relationship over two decades in the making and fueled by a passion to help children see the joy in life and the hope in our creator. I have had the esteem pleasure of watching Scott persevere, dream and thrive in his passionate pursuit to share his story and inspire others. I would encourage anyone to listen with their heart to Scott’s journey that is truly just beginning.

Three Pointer? Layup? This remarkable story is a SLAM DUNK!

Scott Odom and I have known each other for over 10 years. He and I met at a camp for children with Cancer and other blood disorders. Being a teacher I always notice when someone has a gift for working with children. He is engaging and kind, empathetic and inspiring, and just a good person. Because of all of these things, I would always jump to ask him to speak to my classes when the opportunity arose. He has spoken to groups of children I have been involved with for the last 5 years. His message is easy to embrace, and he speaks with ease, because I believe it is straight from the heart. He and I will continue to work together to benefit children and help them grow up to be resilient and selfless leaders. Just like Scott.

I have known Scott since he lost his leg at 14 years old. Early in his rehab, I saw someone that didn’t want limitations. He wanted to play sports and decided early that this event in his life wouldn’t be what stopped him. The truth is everything that happens to us shapes us and directs us one way or another. Life events help to strengthen us or break us down, or maybe a little bit of both. Scott’s amputation really started to define his life early. That early decision that he didn’t want limitations became a theme in his life that he wanted to share with others going through cancer, and specifically other amputees. I have seen Scott be at his very best when he is helping others and showing them they can go on. He has a message to share that can and does influence so many. This has shaped him into a young man that has a powerful story to share and help others begin to start that recovery of their own.
